OPPO Introduces PM-1 Planar Magnetic Headphones

OPPO PM-1 Planar Magnetic HeadphonesMany of you may not have heard of OPPO.  This company exploded on the A/V scene a few years ago with only one product, but that product was a game-changer and continues to be what most audiophiles and reviewers regard as the world’s best DVD and Blu-ray players.  OPPO players have always been priced competitively, and to this day remain the choice of audiophiles who demand the very best from their audio/video components.

This week OPPO introduced its second groundbreaking product: OPPO’s ultrahigh performance PM-1 planar magnetic headphones. The introduction of these new OPPO headphones is the result of many years of research and development led by a team of passionate audio and acoustics engineers, chemical and material scientists, and audiophiles.  Thanks to their efforts, and feedback from OPPO’s beta testing group, the design of the PM-1 was revised many times in order to meet the high standards already set by OPPO in its Blu-ray/DVD player line.

Jason Liao, OPPO’s well-regarded Vice-President of Marketing Development told me that the new headphones utilize a unique pioneering planar magnetic driver that sets it apart from the majority of headphones on the market.  Jason said, “The PM-1 driver features a 7-layer diaphragm and an FEM-optimized high energy Neodymium magnet system with a spiraling pattern of flat conductors etched on both sides, and the double-sided design allows twice as many conductors to be placed within the magnetic field, which leads to higher sensitivity, better damping, and even drive force. The high sensitivity and low weight also allow the headphones to be used freely with portable devices without requiring additional amplification.”  More simply put, this technology encompasses a wide range of innovative solutions that deliver exceptional performance and value.

The new PM-1 headphones are natural extensions of OPPO’s product line into the personal audio field.  Anyone that may be interested in  upgrading their listening experience should be sure to check them out.  They will be out this April for $1100
