Review: Verizon Droid Ultra

Droid Ultra

Thinnest 4G LTE Smartphone Is Out!

With just 7.18mm thickness, the DROID ULTRA Smartphone by Motorola is considered the thinnest 4G LTE smartphone out there, and yet it still boasts a 5-inch HD display and all-day battery life. It also features a seamless design, which is reinforced with unibody DuPont KEVLAR fiber and secured by scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. This Verizon exclusive keeps up well while moving, whether it’s shooting low-light photos or sharing video quickly.

DROID ULTRA features an Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, and a Motorola X8 Mobile Computing system, which brings new features such as ‘Touchless control’.  The Ultra also sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro, which is lightening fast.

Droid Ultra 2

With Quick Capture feature, Droid Ultra Smartphone can easily access the 10-MP camera by shaking the phone twice and by tapping it anywhere on the screen to snap a picture. The embedded Clear Pixel technology collects more light and snaps pictures up to twice as fast as other phone’s cameras, so it can produce images with life and accurate colors. It can, as well, capture the darkest scenes or stop motion blur in bright light. While the rear camera records full HD 1080p video and stereo sound, the front-facing 2-megapixel camera is great for selfie portraits and video chats.

Although, it is superficially the only device on Verizon that doesn’t have the labeling to prove it, the Droid Ultra is of course a 4G LTE device. Testing showed that there are no particular issues with either LTE or Wifi data, aside from the general slowdowns due to network congestion on the mobile data side. Nevertheless, it can outrun other smartphones in terms of processing files.

This sleek smartphone also boasts its DROID ZAP, feature which enables customers to easily share files like images and videos.

Pros

  • Thin and lightweight, making it easy to carry anywhere and easy to handle.

  • Durable Kevlar shell

  • Smooth Operator: More reactive responses. You can almost feel the pixels beneath as your finger moves across the screen.

  • Photo Sphere Camera: Snap pictures easily in any direction and have them come together into incredible, immersive photo spheres with life and colors.

  • Smarter Keyboard (Gesture Typing)

  • Share Photos and Videos Faster: With Android Zap, Droid Ultra can easily share your photos and videos faster.

  • Long battery life up to 28 hours of actual, non-stop usage

  • Integrated Google+ and other applicable Apps

Cons

  • No expandable storage: Lacks microSD slot for storage expansion

  • Can only use Adroid Zap Sharing on smartphones with same or higher Applications

Bottomline, Droid Ultra Smartphone is indeed a high-end quality smartphone. While wafer-thin, it has some cutting-edge features and it fits nicely in any pocket.
